Laetiporus sulphureus ---- Chicken of the Woods -- on Larch

Tony posted this species on 23rd June which had been found on a Yew and this find from woods near Trimsaran was on a Larch.  Sulphur Shelf, another common name for Laetiporus sulphureus, is generally found on broadleaf trees, most commonly Oak so it is surprising that these two recent finds were on 'conifer'.  Other than on Yew, there are few records on gymnosperms, most of these on Larch. This was on a healthy looking tree about 30cm (2ft)from it's base.

  1. Interesting. There is a second, very similar species, Laetiporus conifericola
    see: http://academic.evergreen.edu/projects/mushrooms/phm/s66.htm
It is said to cause mild stomach problems, which fits. What do you think?
Can't seem to find any British records for it. maybe we could be the first!
