As the picture shows, this was growing on a rotting log lying on the ground in the wood.
One of the advantages of not clearing fallen wood is that it appears quite regularly.
This however is the first one I have seen this year.
Although the gills appear white (as in the photo) they soon turn to a "salmony pink" colour, which is the same colour as the spores.
Nice fresh youg specimen ---- can just see gills free from stipe.
