This rather battered specimen was already in half, the cap lying in a ditch. The stipe base was still in the ground and I was surprised how big the volva was. Kibby says it can be distinguished by its prominently striate umbonate cap. The umbo is not very prominent as the cap is fully open but marked striations of the cap margin were present. Kibby says it is found with a variety of tree hosts --- this was close to oak, blackthorn and hazel.
